890,584. Magnetic structures. GEVAERT PHOTO PRODUCTEN N.V. March 4, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 7507/59. Class 38 (2). A magnetic recording tape has iron oxide disposed on one side of a support and a layer of molybdenum trisulphide dispersed in a binding agent on the other to reduce friction. A dispersion is formed with the disulphide, a binding agent such as polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl butyral, polymethyl acrylate or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride and a solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, methylene chloride and ethanol, acetone and butyl acetate, and this dispersion may be applied by brushing, spraying or roller coating. The disulphide particles measure 0.4-1 m. Magnetic material, e.g. iron pentacarbonyl or nickel oxide may be added to the dispersion to minimize print through. The support may be cellulose nitrate, acetate or butyrate, polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene terephthalate. The disulphide also minimizes electrostatic discharges.
