Abstract

979,528. Magnetic structures. AGFA A.G. June 6, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21928/62. Heading H1H. A magnetic transfer tape comprises a temporary support of polyethylene terephthalate polyester on which is disposed a magnetic layer comprising magnetic particles in a binder consisting of polyurethane resin with a physically drying non-cross-linked resin, an adhesive layer being disposed on the magnetizable layer. The magnetic layer, which may contain γFe 2 O 3 particles, may be as disclosed in Specification 979,527, and various polyurethane resins and physically drying resins are specified. The adhesive layer may be formed from wax rubber adhesive, acrylonitrile rubber, polyacrylic esters, vinyl acetate copolymer, vinyl halide copolymers, vinyl esters and cellulose esters. The thicknesses of the magnetic layer and the adhesive layer may be 25Á and 5Á, respectively. In use the adhesive layer of the transfer tape is brought into contact with the final supportwhich may be P.V.C., cellulose acetate or metal-heated from the polyester side to about 100‹ C. with light pressure application, and then the polyester temporary support is stripped off. The magnetic coating may be applied to films, cheques, sorting cards, discs and drums. Specification 547,672 also is referred to.
