836,202. Coated polyethylene terephthalate tapes. YARSLEY RESEARCH LABORATORIES Ltd., [formerly YARSLEY (RESEARCH LABORATORIES) Ltd., V. E.]. Sept. 18, 1957 [Sept. 19, 1956], No. 28606/56. Class 140. [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic recording tape comprises a polyethylene terephthalate base material, to which is applied a substratum layer of an elastomeric composition or a polyisocyanate, to provide adhesion between said base material and a magnetic layer containing magnetic iron oxide. The substratum layer which may be applied by film casting methods, casting, spraying, or roller coating, may comprise a butadiene/acrylonitrile rubber-phenolic resin composition or 4,4<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>11</SP>-triisocyanato triphenyl methane, preferably compounded with an elastomer, such as natural rubber, or butadiene/acrylonitrile rubber. The substratum coating is substantially dried prior to the application of the magnetic layer, and is then substantially cured at room temperature or at an elevated temperature, e.g. not exceeding 165‹ C. The magnetic layer may comprise finely divided magnetic iron oxide together with an elastomeric bonding medium, e.g. cellulose acetate, crepe rubber, coumarone resins.
