Abstract
877,633. Magnetic compositions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 9, 1959 [Dec. 12, 1958], No. 41879/69. Class 38 (2). In the manufacture of a magnetic tape wherein a liquid suspension of magnetic material in a binder is applied in a thin layer on a support, passed through a magnetic field and subsequently set, the inhomogenity and strength of the field, the viscosity, and the tape speed are adjusted so that a uniform surface density. of magnetic material is provided on the tape The suspension may be applied from a nozzle 6 before the tape enters the field provided by polepieces 1, 2 (Fig. 1), or as shown in Fig. 3 the nozzle may be between the polepieces. Other field arrangements are disclosed (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
