890,512. Two-stroke and four-stroke engines; driving-gear; spray carburetters; starting. GARCIA DE LA PARA, G.J.M.G. Sept. 30, 1958 [Oct. 1, 1957], No. 31228/58. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(5). To give two crank-shaft revolutions for every complete piston reciprocation, connecting rods 21, 7, Fig. 1, on the working piston 20 and crank-shaft 8 are interconnected by a fixedly fulcrumed rocker 24 which swings to either side of the line connecting the rocker and crank-shaft axes. The firing (and, in the four-stroke engine shown, induction) strokes thus take more than a crank-shaft revolution and so are longer in duration than the compression (and exhaust) strokes. To assist the rocker 24 to leave the dead centre A in the correct direction on starting, it is acted on through buffer springs (not shown) by an arm 29 connected via a link 25 to a crank disc 26 driven at twice crank-shaft speed from a camshaft 28; alternatively or additionally a free or resiliently loaded eccentric pin connection may be used between the rocker 24 and the rod 21 or 7. Instead of the arm 29 the link 25 or disc 26 may have spring means, or friction means may be used. In a two-cylinder four-stroke engine, the rods 21, Fig. 14, may be connected as shown. Fig. 15 shows a twostroke engine having a pump piston 10 supplying air to two working cylinders one only of which is shown; a carburetter preceded by a one-way valve may be incorporated in the transfer passage 57. In Fig. 17 (not shown) opposed pistons of a two-stroke fuel-injection engine are connected in the manner of the invention to individual crank-shafts which are intergeared.
