Abstract

890,156. Pistons. MAQUINARIA PETROLIFERA S.A. Nov. 11, 1958, No. 36274/68. Class 122 (1). A pump piston comprises a metallic core 5 having a tapered threaded bore 12 for engagement with the piston-rod 1 and a radial flange 8, opposed packing sleeves 9 of rubber &c. bonded to the core on each side of the flange 8 and a hub 15 integral with or rigidly united, as by welding 18, to one end of the core and having means, such as being formed with a hexagonal outer wall 17, to receive a torque-applying tool whereby the piston may be tightly secured to or released from the rod. The bore 12 engages a similarly tapered and threaded portion 2 of the rod 1 and when screwed hard up forms a metalto-metal fluid seal therewith, the core then abutting a split ring 20 engaging a collar 21 on the rod. A reduced portion 3 of the rod extends with clearance through the hub 15 and has a threaded portion 4 for a lock-nut 24.
