Abstract
889,209. Treating a gas with a liquid; furnace atmospheres. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. June 9, 1959 [July 21, 1958], No. 19772/59. Classes 51 (2), 55 (1) and 55 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for charging a gas with the vapour of a vaporizable liquid in a predetermined ratio comprises an atomizer for atomizing the liquid by means of the gas to be charged with vapour which during operation is supplied under pressure to the atomizer, and a tubular body in axial alignment with the nozzle of the atomizer and having a heating element located in close vicinity to the wall of the tubular body for vaporizing liquid projected by the gas into the tubular body. As shown in Fig. 2 the apparatus has a liquid atomizing device comprising an outer cylindrical body 1 carrying a nozzle member 4 at one end and threaded at the other end to receive a nut 7 mounted on a tube 3 inserted in the body 1, the tube 3 being locked in a desired position by a nut 6. The tube 3 is open to atmosphere at one end and at the other carries a liquid injection nozzle 12 releasably held in position by an apertured nut 13 and supplied with the liquid to be atomized through a tube 11. The gas under pressure enters at 9 and a suspension of liquid in the gas leaves the orifice of the nozzle member 4 passing into the tubular body 16 arranged in axial alignment with the nozzle member and surrounded by a heating element 17 whereby the liquid in the gas is vaporized. In a modification the heating element may be located inside the tubular body. The apparatus may be used to produce a mixture of nitrogen and methyl alcohol vapour suitable for producing by cracking at between 250‹ and 600‹ C. a carbo-nitriding atmosphere or a mixture of air and steam for supply to a gas producer.
