Abstract

888,979. Hose couplings. WEATHERED CO. June 8, 1960 [Sept. 8, 1959], No. 20202/60. Class 99(1). A coupling, fitted to a bore 15 having a liner 16 of elastomeric material, such as P.T.F.E., and a wire braid covering 17, comprises a tubular body 6, e.g. of aluminium or steel, having a forward portion 8 on which a coupling nut 9 is received and an integral rearward sleeve 11 formed externally with an enlarged portion 12 tapering into a thin trailing edge 13 and over which the hose covering 17 is extended, a sleeve 22 fitted over the hose, and a nipple 18, e.g. of steel, inserted in the end of the hose and having a sharp edged flange 20 overhanging the end of the liner 16 and cutting into the sleeve 11 when the latter and sleeve 22 are reduced in diameter by crimping so as to secure the liner 16 between the nipple and the sleeve 11. The nipple flange 20 is harder than the sleeve 11 and is larger in diameter than the radial wall between the bores of sleeve 11 and body 6. A mandrel may be inserted within the body 6 and nipple 18 during the crimping operation.
