Abstract

888,112. Endless belt conveyers. MILIK, R. April 23, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 11835/58. Divided out of 888,111. Class 78 (1). An endless-belt conveyer is adapted to negotiate sharp curves by providing a spine 13, Fig. 3, along the length of the belt 14 and dividing the lateral portions of the belt on either side of the spine into a series of end-to-end sections which are connected together by any known belt-fastening means adapted to allow relative longitudinal movement between the sections, e.g. wire loops, a pair of plates having slotted connections with each other, or plating integral with the sections. The belt is supported on a tubular framework comprising uprights 3 to which are pivotally attached at 5, 5A and 6, 6A forked ends 2, 2A and spigot ends 4, 4A, respectively of tubular side frames 1, Fig. 1, which are made up from welded tubes. Between each transversely opposed pair of uprights 3 a cross-member is arranged, the crossmember being composed of two parts 7, 7A each pivotally mounted for swinging about the axis of one of the uprights 3, the two parts when swung out across the conveyer being aligned for connection together by a spring-loaded pin 11 slidable in part 7A and having a threaded portion 11b engageable with a tapped hole in a bracket 10a on part 7. A socket 11c is provided on the pin 11 for the insertion of a turning tool. The arrangement is such that the parts 7, 7A can be swung into an out of the way position in alignment with the side members 1 for insertion of the belt. The cross-member formed by parts 7, 7A carries two rollers 12 engaging grooves in the spine, and two inclined rollers 15 supporting the outer portions of the belt. Two further rollers 12a may also be provided to engage the spine on the return run of the belt. Rollers 18 journalled on pins 19 carried by the uprights 3 may also support the lower run of the belt. The uprights 3 may have claws 21 to engage a mine roof. The belt is supported between successive cross-members by edge guides 16 pivotally mounted on frames 1. In a modification, Fig. 5, the rollers 12 are replaced by pulleys 12B engaging the lower corners of a modified spine 13B having lateral grooves 13e and longitudinally-spaced recesses 13f for engagement by a driving sprocket. In another modification (not shown), the recesses 13f are replaced by a number of longitudinal grooves for engagement with a correspondinglyribbed driving pulley.
