Abstract

1,131,332. Conveyers. JOHN BURTON MACHINE CORP. 23 May, 1966 [8 Dec., 1965; 14 April, 1966], No. 22802/66. Heading B8A. A conveyer comprises a pair of opposed guides 26, 27 extending longitudinally of the path of travel defining a central slot therebetween and an endless link chain 18 received in the slot and in sliding engagement with the guides 26, 27, the planes of adjacent links being disposed obliquely to the plane of the guides and alternate links being disposed in opposite oblique directions and supported on opposite guides 26, 27. The guides 26, 27 are formed by the inturned upper and lower edges of an extruded frame 1 and the edges of the guides are faced with nylon. The upper and lower guides carry the loading and return runs of the chain 18, which frictionally engages and motivates the load for conveyance. An integral T-shaped slot 36, 37 running along each side of the frame 1 houses the heads of bolts and allows the shanks thereof to extend therefrom to mount rollers 2 and guide bars 3 for supporting and guiding the load being conveyed. The rollers 2 can be moved relative to the frame 1 by releasing the nut 53. The rollers are mounted on the ends of shorter bolts and intermediate the length of longer bolts which mount the guide bars 3 via supports 52. At the terminal stations of the conveyer, plates 4 are attached to the frame 1 by bolts in the T-slots, a support drive and idler chain sprockets therebetween. The idler sprocket is slidably mounted for chain tensioning via a threaded screw. Curves in the conveyer circuit, either in the vertical or horizontal planes, are created by bending sections of the frame 1 and coupling them to other sections by plates bolted to the sides thereof. At each joint a rod is inserted in the T-slot and extends from one frame section into its adjacent section, forming a rigid structure. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) the rollers are replaced by support bars and the lateral guide bars are mounted directly on to the frame 1 through adjustable brackets.
