Abstract
887,255. Metal bonded abrasives. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO. Ltd. March 2, 1960 [March 6, 1959], No. 7351/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 22. [Also in Group II] A sintered metal bonded abrasive comprises diamond and a metal bond comprising at least 50% iron, 0À1% to 5% phosphorus and optionally up to 7% sulphur. The bond may also contain Mn, Si, Ni, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo and W and the phosphorus is added as ferrous or ferric phosphate, pynophosphates, phosphites and phosphides or phosphorus compounds of Ni, Co, Cu, Mn, Cr. The sulphur is added as sulphides of Cu, Mn, Cr, Fe, Ni and Co or other abrasives such as WC, SiC and Al 2 O 3 with fillers of glass or mica may be added. The mixed powders are cold pressed and sintered in hydrogen at 750‹C. to 1100‹C.
