Abstract

616,901. Abrasive tools. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 27990. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1945. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] A diamond abrasive body having a steel bond is made according to a process which comprises mixing naked diamonds with bond powders containing the following elements in proportions by weight: Fe at least 60 per cent, carbon 0.7 to 1.5 per cent and one or more steel-forming element selected from the group Ni, Mn, Cr, V, Ti, W, Si, B, Co. The powder as described may be mixed with up to 10 per cent of other modifying elements and the mixture is moulded and then sintered in a non- oxidizing atmosphere within the temperature range 870‹ to 1150‹ C. for a period varying from at least 2 hours at the lower temperature limit to at least ¢ hour at the upper limit.
