552,848. Diamond abrasives. ABBEY, A. (Carborundum Co.). Oct. 22, 1941, No. 13600. [Class 70] Diamond abrasive articles are produced by forming a mixture of diamond abrasive with a porcelanic composition and a plasticising liquid such as water into the shape desired and firing the article in a non-oxidizing or reducing atmosphere at a temperature not exceeding that at which the bond matures to its maximum density and below that at which it would soften due to the formation of excess glass phase, for instance from 1150 to 1250‹C. The porcelanic composition may consist of ball clay and kaolin as plastic ingredients, feldspar or boron oxide as flux, and flint as an inert filler. Other abrasive material may be present in addition to the diamonds. Specification 462,036 is referred to.
