887,227. Embossing machines. HIEDEMANN, H., [trading as HIEDEMANN MASCHINENFABRIK, JEAN]. April 21, 1958 [May 4, 1957], No. 12620/58. Class 100(2) The pressure between a hard engraved embossing roll 12 and a soft counter roll 11 of an embossing calender machine and the drive of the rolls are both controlled by means 15 which controls the supply of a pressure fluid to piston and cylinder units 6, 5 and 13, 14; the latter acting on the bearings of roller 12, so that pressure is applied to and released from roller 12 only when the rolls are already rotating. The rolls are rotated through gear wheels 9, 10 when the clutch 8 is engaged by the supply of hydraulic or pneumatic fluid to cylinder 5 which is rotated by motor I through gear wheels 2, 3, and the control slide 15 is shaped so that the fluid is applied to cylinder 5 before cylinders 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the flow of fluid is controlled by magnetic slides operated by relays.
