Abstract
1294358 Calenders; treating textiles BELOIT CORP 15 Oct 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 50746/69 Headings D1L D1S and D2A A calender comprises a centre roll, and at least three calender rolls spaced about the centre roll and forming nips therewith at spaced angular intervals about the centre roll, and fluid-pressure means arranged internally of each calender roll for controlling the nip pressure between the calender roll and the centre roll. Some or all the calender rolls may be controlled deflection rolls. In the embodiment shown, centre roll 11 is surrounded by three controlled deflection rolls 12, 13, 13 and a second centre roll is placed in nip-forming relation with rolls 13 and a further controlled deflection roll 21 urged against the roll. The calender rolls may be mechanically loaded, and their deflection is controlled by fluidpressure means 15 supplied by lines 16. The means may be fluid acting directly on the roll shell, or fluid acting on a shoe which acts on the roll shell. The centre rolls may be driven. (For Figure see next column)
