887,137. Sluice gates. IMBERTSON, N. M. June 30, 1960, No. 22904/60. Class 68(2). A collapsible dam comprises a water impervious sheet 10 secured in a channel 11, having a flat bottom 12 and smooth vertical walls 13, 14 either artificially created, for example concrete, or natural, and an auxiliary channel 15 is also provided. The edges 26, 27 of the sheet are clamped to the bottom of the channel by a cleat 40 and the end edges 46, 47 of the envelope 36 are clamped to the side walls of a cleat 48. The end extensions provide auxiliary bags 50, 51 which fold against the main bag 36 when inflated, providing a continuous destruction. A pipe 53 connected to a standpipe 55, flush pipe 56 and valve 58, is used to inflat the bag, deflation occurring when the water level in the channel reaches a predetermined height depending on the bag material, position of standpipe and other factors. In a modification of the dam, the bag 36<SP>1</SP> is not secured to the channel walls, but has its ends tucked in, Fig. 9a, and in a second modification, the ends of the sheet are clamped apart by brackets 105, 106, Fig. 9b.
