Abstract
1, 39, 253. Ion-exchange apparatus. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. April 23, 1965 [April 25, 1964], No. 17274/65. Heading BIJ. In a rinsable ion-exchange apparatus comprising a container partly filled with exchanger material there is, as a sealing element, an inflatable folding bag of elastic material, whose lower end, next the filling, is connected internally to a lifting device, and whose other end bears on the container walls. In Fig. 1, the exchanger material 3 rests on a perforated plate 2, and a bag 5 when inflated fills the space 16 being supported on the exchanger 3. The open end of the bag is fixed between the container 1 and the lid, while it may be raised or lowered by lifting cable 9 passing through the lid at leak proof passage 13. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) there is instead a flexible piston 5a bearing on the wall of container 1 by means of tubular rings 5b. In use the sealing element 5, 5a is folded away when liquid flows downwards or during flushing, and is inflated when liquid flow is upwards-this keeping the exchanger in position.
