Abstract

1357806 Discharging hoppers FABRICATED METALS Inc 30 July 1971 [14 June 1971] 35987/71 Heading B8S A flexible follower which assists in discharging viscous liquids from a hopper comprises a flexible diaphragm 30, Fig. 1, which is supported by a sectional stiffener 28 and has annular members 321, 32u attached thereto. The diaphram, which is impervious to liquids, is tensioned by a turnbuckle which bears on the inside of the stiffener 28 and a draw-string 52, Fig. 3. In a second embodiment the stiffener 28 is replaced by an inflatable tube 128, Fig. 4. The outlet 16, Fig. 1, which is connected to a pump, may be located in a recess in the base of the hopper. A wire mesh or studs on the diaphragm prevent the latter from being drawn into the recess.
