Abstract
1310557 Offshore structures COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DE TRAVAUX 17 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 34868/70 Heading E1H A caisson for a marine structure such as an artificial island, mole or quay floats when in transit to the site and is ballasted by aggregate in compartments 4, which are sealed by flexible diaphragms 9, 10, the aggregate being supported by floors 5 pivoted at 6. The compartments 4 are pressurized by compressors 11 so that the diaphragms 10 form cushions upon which the caisson rests when compartments 1 are flooded, Fig. 3, levelling being effected by adjusting the diaphragm pressures. The floors 5 are then lowered and binding material e.g. cement, is injected through ducts 12 into the aggregate when the latter has settled on the diaphragms 10. Thereafter sand may be injected through ducts 13 into the space beneath the base 3. The liquid in the compartments 1 may be replaced by sand. Alternatively, the compartments 1 may be used as liquid reservoirs. (For Figures see next column)
