1,136,178. Subaqueous structures. BAGGERMAATSCHAPPIJ DIRK VERSTOEP N.V. 10 Feb., 1967 [11 Feb., 1966], No. 6499/67. Heading E1H. A method of laying a section of a subaqueous tunnel 1 comprises the steps of depositing a layer 4 of foundation material e.g. gravel, placing a hollow flexible cellular body or mattress 10 upon said layer, supporting said section at the desired level by e.g. cables 6 and pontoons 9; and charging said body with a foundation material so as to close the gap between the base of the structure and said layer. The body 10 may be made of woven material and charged with sand in the form of a slurry, which is pumped into the body through pipes 12. Alternatively, the body 10 may be made of a foil e.g. P.V.C. or polyethylene sheet-material, and charged with cement mortar.
