Abstract
Unsaturated compounds are polymerized by use of a catalyst prepared by reacting (1) an alloy of Al and Ni, Co, Fe, Pt, Pd or Ir with (2) an alkyl chloride, bromide or iodide and optionally (3) free Cl2, Br2 or I2. Monomers mentioned are ethylene, propylene, n- and i-butene and pentenes. In the example, ethylene (containing as trace impurities methane, acetylene and ethane) gave a liquid polymer of which 55,98% was fractionated between 24 and 350 DEG C., the catalyst being prepared from Al/Ni alloy, I2 and EtBr.ALSO:Unsaturated compounds are polymerised by use of a catalyst prepared by reacting (1) an alloy of Al and Ni, Co, Fe, Pt, Pd or Ir with (2) an alkyl chloride, bromide or iodide and optionally, (3) free Cl2, Br2 or I2. Monomers mentioned are ethylene, propylene, n- and ibutene and pentenes. In the example, ethylene (containing as trace impurities methane, acetylene and ethane) gave a liquid polymer of which 55.98% was fractionated between 24 DEG C. and 350 DEG C., the catalyst being prepared from Al/Ni alloy, I2 and EtBr.
