Telomer iodides containing the grouping or wherein x and y are integers, x being from 4 to 14; are obtained by telomerizing olefins or acetylenes which are gaseous at reaction temperature and pressure, with perfluoroalkyl iodides, C x F 2x+ 1 I, which are liquid at reaction temperature, and pressure, the reaction being effected by bubbling the olefin or acetylene through the liquid perfluoroalkyl iodide, in the presence of a free-radical generating catalyst, at atmosphereic pressure or less and at 50 to 220‹ C
