Abstract

A coating of a platinum metal is formed on a titanium or titanium base alloy support by first treating the support to remove the oxide film and then applying several coatings of a platinum compound in an organic vehicle followed by heating to at least 500 DEG C. The titanium support is degreased and etched in concentrated hydrochloric acid and the platinum bearing preparation containing 4%-9% platinum comprises solutions of the resinates or sulpho resinates of platinum in oils. The support may first be coated with an electrolytic deposit of platinum and the coated assembly is used as an anode in electrolytic cells for the manufacture of chlorine and caustic alkali.
