Abstract

1406568 Recoating electrodes electrolytically JAPAN CARLIT CO Ltd 21 Aug 1973 [28 Aug 1972] 39604/73 Heading C7B The coating remaining on a used coated metallic electrode, comprising a metallic substrate, e.g. of Ti, Ta, Nb or Zr, coated with an oxide of one or more of Pt, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Fe, Co, Ni is removed to prepare for recoating by passing a current between the electrode as anode and a cathode e.g. of steel at 1 to 100A/dm<SP>2</SP> of anode CD in an aqueous electrolyte solution containing 5 to 70 wt per cent of one or more of a sulphate, nitrate perchlorate, chlorate or persulphate, e.g. of Na. K, Li or NH4, at 0 to 50 C. The solution may also contain 0.1 to 3 wt per cent H202 as oxidation accelerator. Thereafter the surface of the thus treated electrode may be rubbed with a cloth and/ or water rinsed, and dipped into an aqueous solution containing by weight 5% HF or 8 to 17% HCl. The electrodes may be for use in an alkali metal chloride bath.
