Abstract
884,359. Magnetrons. A S S O C I A T E D ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 18, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1956], No. 38562/56, Class 39(1) Anode D having a slow-wave circuit surrounds an electrode E coaxial with the anode to provide an annular interaction space subject to the action of an axial magnetic field and an annular beam of electrons is caused to emerge axially from an annular emissive face A into the interaction space on a substantially helical orbit. As the annular beam passes close to the anode circuit, and rotates at the exact synchronous velocity, it is highly effective in initiating oscillations which are further sustained by emission from thermionic or secondary-emitting electrode E, or by another annular beam injected into the other end by a cathode replacing collector plate U. As shown, the cathode A is provided with a heater G and is surrounded by a shield H. Anode extension F and the shaping of the end of electrode E suitably shape the electric field acting on the beam ; further electrodes may be provided in the vicinity of the cathode A for this purpose. According to the Provisional Specification there may be two or more cathodes A of different radii and the magnetic pole-piece may act as a collector. Specification 869,603 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 807,127.
