884,058. Hedge-cutters. COLWILL, E. W. J. Dec. 24, 1957, No. 23049/57. Class. 6(2). A hedge trimmer comprises a frame 1 mounted on a tractor and supporting bearings 3 and 3a for a rotatable main shaft 4, driven from the tractor. A supporting arm 17 pivotally mounted at one end on the bearing 3a is provided at its free end with a bearing 18 for a shaft having a chain wheel 19 at one end and a crank disc 20 at the other, the chain wheel being driven from the main shaft 4, and the crank disc being connected by a link 24 to the cutter bar 23. The cutter bar is supported from the arm 17 by means of a stay 22 and a link 26 connected to a level 25, both the lever 25 and the stay 22 being rockably mounted on the bearing 18. The upper end of the lever 25 is connected by a wire 27 to a ratchet lever 29, and by operating the latter, the position of the cutter bar relative to the supporting arm may be adjusted. A strengthening stay 30 and cross brace 36a affords further support for the supporting arm 17, the latter being pivoted about the bearing 3a by a hydraulic ram and cylinder 38 connected to the source of hydraulic power of the tractor.
