Abstract

897,431. Hedge cutters. TWOSE (MANUFACTURING) Ltd., E. V. Nov. 27, 1958 [Nov. 27, 1957; Feb. 25, 1958; Aug. 30, 1958], Nos. 36936/57, 5975/58 and 27914/58. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). Means for mounting and operating a power operated hedge or grass reciprocating cutter bar 2 on a tractor comprises an arm 1 pivotally mounted on a frame 6 attached to the tractor, a bracket 10 pivotally mounted on the arm 1 and carrying the cutter bar 2 and hydraulic means for controlling the pivotal movement of both the arm 1 and bracket 10. As shown the arm 1 is raised and lowered by a hydraulic cylinder 3 which operates a cable 5 and the bracket 10 is moved to pivot the cutter bar by means of a hydraulic cylinder 12 and cables 15<SP>11</SP>. The cutter bar 2 is driven by belts 21<SP>1</SP> from a shaft 23 connected to a power take-off at the rear of the tractor. A spring stay link 24 allows the frame 6 with the arm 1 to swing rearwardly should the cutter bar strike an obstacle. The cutter bar may be driven by an air motor supplied from an air compressor on the tractor. In a modification the bracket 10 may be controlled by a piston and cylinder connected to the arm 1 and the arm 1 may be adjusted by means of a piston and cylinder connected between the arm 1 and frame 6.
