Abstract

1382935 Scraper blade earth workers LAYTON MFG CO 19 Feb 1973 [22 March 1972] 8039/73 Heading E1F A tractor towed earth working apparatus comprises a scraper blade 10 and wheels 32, 34 mounted at each end of the blade via power operated means 50 for raising and lowering the wheels relative to the blade; moreover the blade is formed in two sections 10a, b linked by a pivotal connection 12 and a ram 14 is provided to adjust the relative positions of the sections about this connection. In the embodiment shown each wheel is mounted on a bar 44 adjustably received within tube 42, and ram 50 acting on link arms 40 can swing the tube up and down about pivots 36. Each blade section is provided with an extensible side portion 20 which overlies the main blade and carries a side plate 24. A tube 28, secured to the side plate is movable by ram 30 within a guide tube 26 fixed to the blade. Stanchions 52, 54 extend forwardly from the blade and each stanchion is pivotally linked, at 76 and 78, to two arms 74, 80 which extend from a pivotal connection (82, Fig. 1 not shown) spaced forwardly of the tractor rear axle. A tractor lift structure 94 is attached to the arms 74 via a linkage which allows limited up and down movement independent of the lift structure. Two scarifier devices 56, 58 are provided on pivotal mountings and are operated by rams 65. In a modified form of wheel mounting (Figs. 7-9, not shown) each end of the blade is provided with a double wheel assembly, one wheel arranged behind the other. Each assembly is pivoted to a bar which is itself pivoted to the rear of the blade, and a ram acts between each bar and the blade to raise and lower the assembly.
