Abstract

864,901. Hedge-cutters. LEE, W. S. K. Aug. 11, 1958 [Aug. 13, 1957], No. 25467/57. Class 6(2). Means for mounting a hedge-cutter on a tractor comprise an intermediate frame 5 connected to the lift arms of the tractor, and a boom-supporting frame 8, the two frames 5 and 8 being pivotally connected by side frames 9 and 10 to constitute a parallel motion linkage capable of angular movement in a horizontal plane by the operation of a singleacting hydraulic ram 11 which is in communication with the hydraulic system of the tractor. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a spring 12 is provided for cancelling the action of the ram 11, the spring also allowing the boom to move away from the hedge on encountering an obstruction, but alternatively a double-acting ram may be incorporated in the linkage system. The boom 15 supporting the hedgecutter 20 is mounted by means of the bracket 16 so as to pivot about the axis of the driving shaft 17, such pivotal movement, and therefore adjustment of the height of the hedgecutter 20, being effected by adjustment of the strut 14. The hedge-cutter 20 is mounted so that its position relative to the boom is adjustable about a horizontal axis, such adjustment being effected by means of the hand-operated worm and wheel arrangement 22. Drive to the cutter is transmitted from the power take-off of the tractor via the universal joints 28, shaft- 17, gearing 18, and shaft 19. The mounting of the boom is stabilized by the provision of a triangular frame 23 and strut 24. Mention is made in the Specification of the provision of weights to counter balance the weight of the boom.
