Abstract

1,245,092. Gang mowers. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. 13 Sept., 1968 [15 Sept., 1967], No. 42263/67. Heading A1F. A gang mower machine comprises a main frame 10 mounted on ground wheels 11, a sub-frame 19 fitted with cutter units (shown in dotted outline) being connected to the main frame by linkage 40, 41 and 42, 43 which permits pitching movement of the sub-frame in the direction of travel and vertical movement relative to the main frame, and a hydraulic ram 57 operable to lift the sub-frame and raise the cutter units off the ground. To achieve the raised position the ram rotates arm 60 which rotates shaft 47 via shaft 44 and links 52, 54 and 53. In the fully raised position the links 42, 43 and 40, 41 overcentre so that the sub-frame assembly is retained thus by its own weight. At the front of the machine each of two cutter units is connected to the sub-frame by two shafts 35, 36 to allow rocking about a fore-and-aft axis. Wing cutters may be mounted on arms pivoted on the main frame and adapted to be rotated by hydraulic rams to a transport position in which the lifting arms are upright with their cutter units positioned above the main frame.
