Abstract

883,677. Discharging compressed gas containers. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. July 28, 1960 [July 31, 1959], No. 26412/59. Class 8(2). A device for discharging a plurality of gas containers each having a puncturable seating cap comprises a gas tight housing 1 in which containers 5, 31 are axially and slidably mounted and having a gas outlet 7 adapted for connection to a receiving apparatus through a non-return valve 8, hollow cup-piercing pins 6, 32 carried by members 3, 25, and a threaded end cap 24 which when screwed up to a shoulder 35 first effects piercing of container 31 and then container 5 by the thrust transmitted through the containers. Gas released from container 31 passes through the pin 32, a diametral bore 33 in member 25, the annular space between housing 1 and the containers and bores 36 in member 3 after which the gas mixes with that discharged from container 5. In a modification the housing is formed in two halves which are screwed together to effect piercing of the containers.
