Abstract

A fire-extinguishing apparatus of the kind in which a fire-extinguishing medium is expelled from a container by gas under pressure is mounted between a pair of wheel rims of diameter such that all the parts of the apparatus lie within the imaginary cylinder containing both rims whereby the apparatus can be run on the rims to the point of use and be turned on its side to lie on a run for use. The container of the fire-extinguishing medium 1 and the enclosed subsidiary container 5 for an expellant gas may be spherical, the former being attached to the two wheel rims by means of four radial struts 25. An outlet fitting 9 for the expelling gas passes through both containers and is connected through a valve control pipe-system 13, 14, 15 outside container 1 to inlet fitting 16 into 1; a main discharge outlet 22 for the medium under pressure is found at the base of I when the apparatus lies on one wheel rim. A discharge hose connected to this outlet is lapped on the outside of 1 within the rims.
