883,001. Variable-speed ratchet gear. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Nov. 1, 1958, No. 35139/58. Class 80 (2). A transmission on a tractor-towed manurespreader comprises an input shaft 16 driven by the tractor power take-off, which drives the beater shaft directly through a manuallyreleasable coil-spring one-way clutch 31, bevel reduction gear 24, 35, and a sprocket 19; and also drives the apron shaft 23 through a steplessly-variable ratchet gear as follows. The outer race 53 of a one-way sprag clutch on the apron shaft 23 is oscillated against spring return 57 by an eccentric roller 62 on the end of the input shaft 16, the effective stroke and hence the speed of the driven shaft 23 being determined by adjustment of a stop-screw 68 bearing on an inclined lug 66 of the race 53. Reverse rotation of the apron shaft 23 is prevented by a one-way sprag detent 48.
