Abstract

826,499. One-way clutches. BAMFORDS Ltd. Oct. 21, 1957 [Oct. 19, 1956], No. 31823/56. Class 80 (2). An agricultural machine driven from a separate power source through a universal joint has a friction wedge type freewheel between the driven member of the universal joint and the driving shaft of the machine. A pick-up baling machine such as described in Specification 755,857, [Group XVII], is driven from a shaft 11 through a universal joint 12, the driven shaft 13 of which is splined to receive the inner member 14 of a jamming roller free-wheel clutch. The outer member 17 of the clutch is connected through a friction torque overload clutch 22, to a driving sprocket 25 connected by a chain 26 to the main shaft sprocket 27 of the baler 10. Speed fluctuations in the drive caused by angularity in the universal joint are damped by the one-way clutch.
