Abstract
882,803. Electrostatic precipitation. SOC. FINANCIERE D'EXPANSION COMMERCIALE ET INDUSTRIELLE S.A. SFINDEX. Sept. 19, 1958 [Sept. 23, 1957], No. 30071/58. Class 39(1) A two-stage electrostatic precipitator includes an ionizer electrode in the form of a discharge wire 4 arranged at least partially within the upstream end of the coaxial, tubular, counter electrode 3. The wire 4 is substantially shorter than the counter electrode 3, and is neither supported nor insulated at its downstream end in order to obtain high field intensities. The wire is preferably of platinum and may be movable so that its length within electrode 3 may be varied in order to reduce the formation of ozone. The collecting zone may be of square cross-section and may comprise a plurality of plates 5, 6 alternately connected to a voltage source and to earth, the earthed plates being removable for cleaning purposes.
