Abstract
881,252. Tumbler driers. BRAITHWAITE & SON ENGINEERS Ltd., ISAAC. Aug. 19, 1960 [May 22, 1959], No. 17427/59. Class 34(2) A tumbler drier of the end loading type, in which a rotary cylinder is supported on and rotated by a single trunnion, the cylinder having an aperture axially opposite to the trunnion through which the goods to be dried are introduced, has an imperforate peripheral wall and drying air enters and leaves the cylinder through a ring of apertures in an end wall, which apertures, as the cylinder rotates, come in turn opposite an air supply and an exhaust duct which are so spaced that each aperture moves through an angular distance after being opposite the supply duct before coming opposite the exhaust duct. The cylinder A has an end wall a<SP>3</SP> having the ring of apertures D which successively come opposite the arcuate air inlet E and the arcuate outlet E<SP>1</SP>, both the inlet and outlet being formed in the end wall of an outer casing B of the drier. The drying air is supplied to the inlet through a dampered duct F after passage through a heater G and is withdrawn through the outlet by a fan H into a vertical duct K and thence into a horizontal chamber M below the cylinder. The chamber has a central passageway m at the end of which is a screen for removing lint or like fibrous material from the air stream. The air passes along the passage m and through the screen, returning back through the chamber M in the spaces m<SP>2</SP> at the sides of the passage to the inlet of the fan H and thence to the outlet duct N leading to atmosphere. A portion of the exhausted air may be recirculated through the cylinder instead of all passing directly to atmosphere.
