Abstract

879,914. Inert gas generators. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. June 16, 1960 [June 22, 1959], No. 21282/59. Class 47. [Also in Group XII] An inert gas generator has a sheet metal body part 1 having a gas discharge outlet 2 at its upper end and a water outlet 3 at its lower end, a combustion products vertical sheet duct 5 coaxial with part 1, a water jacket 6 surrounding duct 5, a fluid fuel combustion chamber 8 at the upper end of duct 5, and water sprayers 11 supplied from the jacket 6 at the upper end of the annular space between the jacket 6 and the part 1. The inert combustion gases pass through the space 12, which may contain stones or like rings supported on wire mesh, in which the gases are washed and cooled by the spray from sprayers 11. A thermostat 13 cuts off fuel if the upper part of the generator exceeds a predetermined temperature and a thermostat 14 cuts off fuel on temperature drop due to extinguishing of the flame in chamber 8. There is a constant water level device 4 of the kind described in Specification 847,853 [Group XXIX].
