Abstract

An ignition device 23 for a gas turbine engine reheat burner wherein fuel is injected by injectors into a stream of combustion supporting gas comprises a housing of refractory material having a chamber 25 therein within which are mounted cylindrical foraminate rolls 33 of a catalytic metal or alloy such as an alloy of rhodium and platinum containing 10 to 30% of rhodium, there being an annular gap 35 between the rolls 33 and the wall of the chamber 25 to reduce heat transmission from the rolls to the wall. The rolls 33 are supported between foraminate concentric cylinders 31, 32 of a similar metal or alloy which are welded to a plate 30 closing chamber 25.
