Abstract

1,114,256. Ignition apparatus. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 23 Sept., 1965 [30 Sept., 1964; 30 Nov., 1964], Nos. 39750/64 and 48491/64. Heading F4F. [Also in Division F1] Ignition apparatus comprises a spark-plug 16 and a fuel inlet nozzle 12 projecting through the wall 11 of a combustion chamber and enclosed by a perforated cover 18 which extends into a stream of gas to be ignited. The spark-plug, nozzle and cover are secured to or on a body part 10 fixed into the wall 11. Nozzle 12 comprises a central passageway 13 for liquid fuel and an annular passageway 14 through which primary combustion air is supplied, this air passing through a swirler device 15. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the nozzle and spark-plug are enclosed by a cover within an annular combustion chamber 20 of a gas turbine engine, combustion air and dilution air flowing toroidally around the chamber.
