Part of an aperture 6 formed in the wall of a combustion chamber is occupied by a burner 5 and the remaining part of the aperture is covered by a movable plate 8 which is forced away from the aperture in the event of an explosion in the combustion chamber, thus relieving the gas pressure therein. The plate may lie over the aperture by its own weight or be held in position by springs 10 (as shown). The plate may be slidable on the burner tube (Fig. 3, not shown) or it may be fixed to or integral with the burner which then moves with the plate.
