Abstract
889,308. Protecting pipes. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 2, 1959], No. 40883/59. Class 99(2). A shielding device 14 comprises a member 16 adapted to be disposed between a pipe 12 and a chamber 10 containing or producing hot gases or flames and to define an enclosed space around at least a part of the pipe, the member being provided with means 20 connecting the enclosed space to a supply of incombustible gas having a pressure which is at least equal to the pressure within the chamber when the chamber contains or is producing hot gases or flames. As shown, the member 16 is supported in spaced relationship to the pipe 12 by brackets 18. In a modification, the pipe 12 is enclosed in a second pipe reduced in diameter at the ends thereof.
