A current distributing rail in which plugs may be inserted at any point along its length and, if desired, slid along the rail, consists of a striplike insulating body 1 in which is a plurality of longitudinal slots 2, 3, 4 containing conductor bars 5, 6, 5<1>, 6<1> and 7, the slots 2, 3 containing line or phase bars being widened at the bottom and the slot 4 containing earth or neutral bars being of smaller depth than the other slots. Adjacent lengths of rail may be connected together by connector s13, 13<1>. Fig. 3 shows a rightangled connection member consisting of a pair of triangular-shaped insulating parts 16, 17 carrying connectors 14, 14<1> connected by wires 15, whilst Fig. 4 shows a junction box for four rails comprising conducting plates 20, 22 separated by an insulating plate 21 and located in a box 18. Each wall of the box carries a pair of sockets 24, 25, the sockets 24 being connected to plate 20 and sockets 25 to plate 22. A rail for three-phase, four-wire supply is shown in Fig. 7, having grooves 32 along its sides to receive screws 37 located in lugs 34 on the plug, which in this case has contacts 35, 36 in the form of metal strip bent back on itself. The screws may be tightened sufficiently to prevent removal of the plug but permit the plug to be slid along the rail or tightened so as to prevent any movement of the plug.
