Abstract

774,165. Two-part couplings. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 4, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 22407/55. Class 38 (1). A multiple contact socket connector comprises an insulating block 14 having a slot 15 into which project the bared ends 17 of wires 18, the wire ends being passed through apertures in the rear wall of the block and over a resilient strip 25 located in the slot 15, the free ends then being bent round the upper edge of slot 15 which has V-shaped notches 26 to receive and wedge said ends. A cover 31 encloses the wire ends. The portions of the wire ends 17 in slot 15 thus form strip contacts for engaging contact strips 12 bent round the edge of an insulating plate 11 when said plate is inserted in slot 15, contact pressure being supplied by the strip 25. Contacts 12 may comprise printed conductors. Fig. 8 shows a modification wherein wire ends 17<SP>1</SP> are bent round both the upper and lower edges of the slot 15<SP>1</SP> to form two sets of contacts for engaging contacts 52 on both sides of a plate 51. A resilient strip 25<SP>1</SP> is provided for each set of contacts. In a further embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) studs are provided on the outside of the block round which the wire-ends 17 are wrapped to provide additional anchoring means to the notches 26.
