Abstract
A composition which will form a pumpable slurry comprises hydraulic cement and a minor amount, sufficient to prevent loss of water from the slurry of (1) a water dispersible dextran having a molecular weight between 5000 and that of native unhydrolyzed microbiologically produced or (2) mixtures of native water-disperisible dextran and fructose produced by the action of dextran-synthesizing strains of Leuconostoc on sucrose. The amount of dextran is between 0,1 and 5,0%, and the term hydraulic cement includes lime; pozzuolana cements e.g. slag cements from slaked lime and granulated blast furnace slag; natural cement and portland cement. The cement may contain up to 3% calcium sulphate or chloride. Fillers e.g. sand or crushed limestone, and retarders may also be present.
