Abstract

1488680 Hydrated calcium aluminates and silicates LAFARGE 8 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 43526/74 Heading ClA Mineral fillers, comprising one or more hydrated calcium silicates and/or calcium aluminates wherein the molar ratio of Al 2 O 3 to CaO is 1 : 1 to 1 : 4 are prepared by hydrating one or more crushed anhydrous calcium silicates and/or calcium aluminates, with additional anhydrous or hydrated lime if necessary to provide the required molar ratio, at 10-100‹ C. with sufficient water to give a solids content of 5-70 wt. per cent, the mixture being subjected to abrasion (e.g. by milling) during hydration and the resulting powder being dried. The starting material may be refractory aluminous cements or white Portland cements. The preparation of C 2 AH 8 , C 3 AK 6 , C 4 AH 3 (where C=CaO and A = Al 2 O 3 ) is described in the examples.
