Abstract

1402887 Cement composition USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 17 Aug 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38486/72 Heading C1M A cement or clinker comprises Portland cement or clinker, calcium aluminate cement or clinker (2-17 wt. per cent based on the Portland cement or clinker) and sufficient calcium sulphate to provide excess SO 3 over the optimum SO 3 content for the Portland cement determined by ASTM standard C563-70, this excess SO 3 being 2-24 wt. per cent based on the Portland cement or clinker. The calcium sulphate may comprise gypsum, e.g. up to 10 wt. per cent of the cement and additional CaSO 4 may be provided by anhydrite. The cement may have an average Wagner surface of at least 1600 cm.<SP>2</SP>/gm. or the Portland cement and calcium aluminate cements may be preground to Wagner surfaces of at least 1600 cm.<SP>2</SP>/ gm. and at least 1350 gm./cm.<SP>2</SP> respectively and the calcium sulphate is preground to at least 70% - 100 U.S. mesh. In Examples 1 and 2 mortars of the cement with sand, and in Examples 3-5 concretes of the cement with sand and expanded crushed shale (maximum size = ¢ inch) are described. In a modification the Portland cement or clinker is replaced by Portland blast furnace slag cements or Portland Potpolar cements meeting ASTM standard C595-68.
