Abstract

1455917 Hardenable substances I U CONVERSION SYSTEMS Inc 21 Nov 1974 [30 Nov 1973 2 Aug 1974] 50476/74 Heading ClH A hardenable substance comprises (based on the weight of dry solids): 1-15% lime or a lime substitute providing a molar equivalent amount of hydratable alkaline earth metal oxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, 1-50% digested sewage sludge solids, 20-90% fly ash or fly ash equivalent amounts (defined) of some other pozzolanic waste material and water providing a moisture content of 5-50%. " Fly ash equivalent amount " is defined as the amount of fly ash substitute which provides the same reactivity as a particular amount of fly ash. Sources of alkaline earth metal hydroxide may include Basic Oxygen Furnace waste dust, waste lime kiln dust, or cement kiln dust as well as lime. Fly ash " substitute " may include waste " alum " (e.g. the waste byproduct of a water treatment plant), " red mud ", and amorphous siliceous residues of waste incinerators, e.g. petroleum refinery waste incinerators. Water quenched blast furnace slags may also be included in the composition. Other either inert or complementary materials may be included in the composition, e.g. soil, aggregate, Portland cement, or sulphite compounds or alkaline earth metal sulphates. Tables 1-5 and 7-11 illustrate compositions containing dolomitic monohydrated lime, dolomitic waste lime, high calcium waste lime or waste cement dust, sewage, fly ash, calcium sulphate anhydrite waste and sand.
