Abstract

1473767 Cement compositions CALGON CORP 19 Sept 1975 [23 Sept 1974] 38564/75 Heading C1H [Also in Divisions C3 and E1] A cement composition, capable of forming a low fluid loss slurry when mixed with water, comprises dry hydraulic cement, 0À05 to 5 wt per cent based on the cement of a water soluble triblock copolymer of the formula A-B-A where each A block represents 10 to 10,000 units of acrylamide and the B block represents 10- 5000 units of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. The hydraulic cement may include hydraulic limes, grappier cements, natural cements, Portland cements and pozzolan cements (e.g. slag cements made from blast furnace slag and slaked lime). The composition may include retarders, e.g. carboxymethylhydroxyethyl cellulose, borax, dehydrated borax, calcium lignosulphonate and ferrochrome lignosulphonate and inert materials, e.g. barite, ilmenite and silica. Brines (e.g. sea water) may be used to form the slurry. The cement composition may be used for cementing a zone in a well penetrating a subterranean formation.
