Abstract

878,795. Glazing. KNAG A. S., A. Nov. 25, 1959 [Jan. 16, 1959], No. 39955/59. Class 20(3) A panel or window pane or multi-glazed unit is secured in the rectangular aperture formed by mullions 21 and transoms in a curtain-walling structure by clamping the panel between a support such as the wooden strips 212 and capping strips 200 bridging the gaps between the mullions 11 and the panel or in the case of a window, between two such capping strips, each capping strip 200 having one longitudinal edge in the form of a forked flange 202, 203 which due to the resiliency of the capping strip, can be sprung over the edge of the mullion to pivot about that edge, the other edge 204 of the capping strip abutting against the panel 15, and a flange portion 206 integral with the capping strip extends from a point adjacent the edge 204 at an angle to the plane passing through the two edges 202, 203 and 204 and terminates in a hook portion 207 which engages a hook portion 215 on a bracket 210 secured to the mullion. The bracket 210 has resiliency and carries the wooden strip 212 opposing the edge 204 of the capping strip 200 to form therewith a clamp for the panel 15 allowing minor movements of the latter to take place in the plane of the panel, without shifting the line of contact between the edge 204 and panel 15. Insulating material 17 is inserted between an inner panel 16 and a partition member 83, the wooden strips 212 being adjustable in relation to the edge 204 before insertion of the material 17, from the inside as by nuts and screws 213, 214 securing the strips to the brackets 210, or from the outside after removal of the panel 15 for replacement thereof. In the case of a window, the capping strips are arranged on the inner and outer sides of the walling to grip the glass therebetween and the bracket comprises a hairpin member having its web secured to the base 21 of the mullion, the legs terminating in hook portions each engaging a respective one of the hook portions of the capping strips and the legs adjustable relative to each other by means of a screw and nut arrangement. Specifications 878,794 and 878,796 are referred to.
