Abstract

878,238. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 13, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 20688/60. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XXII] An electron tube grid comprises support rods provided with notches into which turns of grid wire are pressed so as to be deformed. As shown, molybdenum grid wire 3 of 0.08 mm. diameter is laid in 25 degrees notches formed in opposite faces of copper-chrome alloy support rods 1, the notches having a depth of about 1/10 of the diameter, 0.75 mm., of the rods. Initially the wire projects above the surface of the undeformed rod but after pressure-rolling, the wire is flattened where it contacts the roller and the sides of the notches and completely fills the notches. The mechanical strength and damping of the grid is further increased if, as shown, the turns of the grid wires cross between the rods 1 and are soldered together at their points of contact 6.
